Electric Fields

Introduction

This laboratory will provide you with a number of measurements and exercises that will facilitate your study of electric fields.

In this laboratory, you will:

  1. Apply a potential difference to conducting electrodes - drawn with conducting ink on slightly conducting paper.
  2. Utilize a voltmeter to map out equipotential lines on the conducting paper.
  3. From the equipotential lines, map out electric field lines for some simple charge distributions.
  4. Verify the relationship between electric field lines and electric potential.

Equipment

Agilent 34401A Multimeter, HP E3631A triple output power supply, resisters, cork board, conducting paper, assorted wires, tacks and probes.
